Dubba Jonny - The Drinking Man EP [Liyan]

Bournemouth-based Dubba Jonny first exploded into the limelight in 2009 - and hasn’t looked back since. Earning an enviable reputation thanks to energetic sets, first class production and some of the most forward thinking tunes around, the Dubba Jonny name has gone from strength to strength in the last 4 years. Regularly racking up over a million views on YouTube’s UKF including 6 million on the ‘A Brief Tutorial On Dubstep Production’ Dubba Jonny has also featured numerous times on UKF’s yearly Dubstep compilation.

After topping the Charts with ‘All In’ hitting #1 on the Juno, as well as ‘Never Judge An EP By Its Cover’ rising to #2 on Beatport’s Dubstep Releases chart, Dubba Jonny carried on with momentum with the massive ‘No Stopping EP’ last year. Featuring 5 tracks of the heaviest future Dubstep, the ’No Stopping EP’ was a statement of intent - with ‘Always’ earning half a million views alone on UKF. Now with Brian Dunn at the helm, Dubba Jonny is ready to unleash the follow up - The Drinking Man EP.

‘Blockbuster’
After a cinematic, tongue-in-cheek build up, ‘Blockbuster’ drops into a 140bpm juggernaut. A combination of stomping drums, heavyweight sub and basslines that spit like an automatic rifle, ‘Blockbuster’ kicks off 2013 with a bang. An all-out assault on the senses, ‘Blockbuster’ is already tearing up raves across the globe.

‘Drinking Man’ (feat. RJ Duke)
A joint project with RJ Duke, ‘Drinking Man’ shows off another side to Dubba Jonny’s versatile production. Kicking off with the characterful vocals of RJ Duke over a western-tinged acoustic guitar, ‘Drinking Man’ transforms into a unique blend of rock and dubstep. After the vocal laden intro, Dubba Jonny carries on the vibe with a bassline that perfectly complements RJ Duke’s standout lyrics.

‘Ampalamps’ (feat. The Duke)
Switching things up once again, ‘Ampalamps’ sees Dubba Jonny and The Duke put their unique spin on the Trap genre. Beginning with an introduction full of jittering percussion, ‘Ampalamps’ flashes into a rough and ready blend of hard reverbed snares, distinctive synths and infectious melodies. Simple and effective but full of Dubba Jonny’s trademark attention to detail, this one oozes attitude.

‘Just Wanna Party’
Opening with a striking piano riff, ‘Just Wanna Party’ breaks the mold once again. After a buildup featuring iconic vocals and another infectious synth-line, ‘Just Wanna Party’ drops into a catchy electro number. Fusing Dubba Jonny’s grimy bass, clever vocal edits and some inspired melodies, ‘Just Wanna Party’ sees the Bournemouth based producer make a hit in yet another genre.

‘Dead To the Dark’ (feat. CubeKin)
Rounding off the stunning Drinking Man EP, ‘Dead To the Dark” offers no let up. After a sombre intro with vocals courtesy of CubeKin, ‘Dead to the Dark’ kicks down into another heavyweight Dubstep track. After a sledgehammer like drop, ‘Dead To the Dark’ explodes into a patch work of vocal-like bass and spitting high synths. An original fusion of heart-moving and body-moving production ‘Dead To the Dark’ ends things in style.
