Matrix & Chords - Hypnotize [Metro]

Established in 1997 by Jamie Quinn (aka Matrix), Metro Recordings has stood the test of time as one of the most respected labels in the history of drum and bass. With a catalogue that includes heavyweight names such as Ed Rush & Optical, Fierce, Cause 4 Concern, DJ Fresh & Vegas and Bad Company, as well as classic tracks such as ‘The Shining’, ‘Sardines’, ‘New York’ and ‘Vertigo’, it’s no surprise that Metro has a reputation of the utmost standards.

In 2005, Matrix along with Metro Recordings teamed up with Futurebound’s renowned Viper Recordings to release the first Metro/Viper single, ‘Strength 2 Strength’. The track was the beginning of a long-standing partnership which resulted in the modern classic album, ‘Universal Truth’, which included perennial hits such as ‘Knight Riderz’, ‘American Beauty VIP’, ‘Family (feat. Robert Owens)’ and ‘Coast To Coast’. In 2011 the duo released the compilation album ‘Worldwide: 001’, to global acclaim. The album included two new Matrix & Futurebound tracks, ‘Strength 2 Strength (Smooth Remix)’ and ‘Biology (feat. Cat Knight)’, along with two solo efforts from Matrix, ‘Shelter’ and ‘Thin Ice’. Coming off the success of the Metro/Viper alliance, Metro Recordings is now proud to announce its next solo venture, seeing label boss Matrix team up with rising star Chords on ‘Hypnotize’.

Since his debut way back in 1993 on Formation Records, Matrix has carved a reputation as one of the truly all-time great producers in drum and bass. From his timeless album, ‘Sleepwalk’ on Virus Recordings in 2000, to his Top 10 house hit, ‘It’s Love Trippin’ under his Goldtrix alias, along with appearing on labels such as Moving Shadow, Prototype Recordings, Hospital Records, Ram Records, and Audioporn, Matrix’s output is rivaled by few.

A classically trained pianist, and finalist of the BBC’s ‘Young Musician of the Year’, Chords introduced himself to the scene with his remix of Cyantific’s ‘Don’t Follow’ on the Hospital Records recent ‘Festival Drum & Bass’ album. Attracting the support of big names across the scene including Sub Focus, Culture Shock, Netsky, Brookes Brothers and Sigma, Chords is a fast rising producer who at the age of only 21, is set for even bigger things.

‘Hypnotize’ – Matrix & Chords
With an anticipating intro full of effects, vocals and synths, ‘Hypnotize’ has the sort of intricate expertise which make this a step above your average drum and bass liquid roller. A distinctive talking bass, soulful vocals, and solid drums, along with a host of small touches ensure ‘Hypnotize’ is a welcome addition to Metro’s impressive catalogue. A tour de force from two producers at the top of their game, ‘Hypnotize’ is the epitome of soulful drum and bass that can still fill the dancefloor.

‘Follow You’ – Chords
The flip sees Chords take the reins for another liquid masterpiece. Featuring an introduction packed with detail, ‘Follow You’ launches into another accomplished roller. Boasting ethereal vocals and a simple but infectious melody full of clever touches, ‘Follow You’ puts Chords firmly on the map as a producer to keep your eyes on in the drum and bass landscape.
